Report from the network sessions and the network meeting of 5-7 March 2009 in Trondheim

Report from the network sessions and the network meeting of 5-7 March 2009 in Trondheim

At this congress in Trondheim, which was the first for the new Social Pedagogy network, nine papers were presented (see the schedule below). A symposium that included two presentations was also conducted. The number of participants ranged from six to fifteen.

The content of the papers varied. Some treated Social Pedagogy in relation to work with and understanding of the elderly. Other papers focused on social pedagogical skills or competences from a variety of perspectives. The contexts and the target groups in the research projects described ranged from students in special education and people with disabilities to socially vulnerable children in day care institutions. One paper had a more theoretical comparative perspective.

The symposium included presentations from research projects concerning initiatives for mentally and/or physically handicapped adults.

We believe that the presented papers covered a wide range of topics, perspectives and methods, but still had a common basis in a social pedagogic approach.

The network meeting gathered around eight participants. During this meeting we started with a short presentation and evaluation, and concluded that the first congress had been successful and that we wanted to ensure the next was also successful and well attended. Thereafter we again discussed the purpose of the network and its content. Following our discussion, we decided to review, to some extent, the description of the aims and intent of the network.

So far, we have not had any activities in the network since the last congress in Trondheim, except that two of the conveners have met and planned future tasks, including arranging an intermediate network meeting in October 2009 in Sweden.
