Convenor: Tomas Englund, Department of Education, Örebro University, Sweden

The aim of the network is to act as a meeting place for Nordic curriculum researchers. Over the years a bunch of papers concerning curriculum theory, educational policy, didactics and curriculum history have been presented. An intention with the network is to contribute to critical analyses of papers presented and to further presentations at EERA, BERA, AERA and other international conferences and to support the production of articles in international curriculum journals and this is an intention that has been successful.

The network has for many years had many Swedish participants, curriculum research being pointed out by international evaluators as one of the dominant research directions in Sweden already in the midst of the 1990s. However, over the years there are members and presentations made by representatives from all the countries of NERA. Current network representatives from other countries are Lotte Rahbek-Schou from Denmark, Kirsten Sivesind from Norway and Michael Uljens from Finland.

During the last years Swedish curriculum researchers in collaboration with other Nordic curriculum researchers have arranged two-days (inter)national conferences (in Sweden) with invited international guests and open for Nordic / NERA researchers. These conferences have not been announced as and integrated into the NERA-structure but might be in the future. There is a growing participation from all the Nordic countries within these conferences. The first Swedish national conference on curriculum research was held in Uppsala, Sweden in August 2005 and is reported in Forsberg, ed. (2007): Curriculum Theory Revisited. The second conference was held in Örebro, Sweden in September 2007 (responsible: Tomas Englund) and the third is to be held in Växjö October 15-16 2009 (responsible: Daniel Sundberg). There is a growing Nordic participation in these conferences. There is a second report presenting current curriculum research perspectives planned on papers presented in Örebro 2007 and Växjö 2009 (editors: Tomas Englund and Daniel Sundberg).
